Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and diligence.

Well the heading says it all.

The society under the leadership of our president Dr. Ashish Jain has set the academic calendar of the society rolling. The program “Sameeksha” – a revision program for the exam going postgraduates was conducted at Udaipur from February 28, to March 2, 2014, where the president himself was a faculty member and I was present as the host. The program was appreciated by all the postgraduates who attended the 3 days event and participated very well by interacting with the faculty members of the program. The feedback of the participants has shown that they would like to attend such program where they are able to interact with the faculty more easily and freely.

The 13th National Postgraduate Convention was held on March 7 to March 9, 2014 at Mangalore where the postgraduates had an opportunity to present their papers and listen to the views of the faculty in their lectures.

The most appreciated program by the members of our society – training of teachers is going to be held again this year at two different venues. It will be held in Bangalore from the June 20 to June 22, 2014 and in Lucknow on the September 19 and September 20, 2014. I request the life members to take advantage of this program and hone their teaching skill. It is a not to be missed opportunity with the best in the business. The venue details shall be available to the members on the website in a few days time.

The postgraduate orientation program has been scheduled to be held in four different regions of the country for the benefit of the newly joining postgraduate students, to orient them on the nitty-gritty and nuances of postgraduate education and training in periodontics. The programs will be held in Raichur, Pune, Bilaspur, and Chandigarh.

Another initiative is conducting professional enrichment programs (PEP) at various centers in the country to create awareness among the general dental practitioners regarding the current concepts and recent advances in periodontics. We had successfully conducted PEPs in various parts of the country last year and were well-appreciated by all. This year again the program will be conducted in collaboration with the Indian Dental Association in different parts of the country.

Another first this year will be The Integrated Science Program – colloquim which will focus on periodontal medicine being scheduled to be held in National Capital Region, Kolkata and Bengaluru. The program will be held in the month of September and we have faculty from USA coming to share their knowledge.

The essay competition – an activity that has been conducted by the society for many years is being conducted this year as well. The topics have been finalized and all the members will receive the notice soon. I request one and all to participate enthusiastically in the event.

The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.
