Cover photograph (Copyright © 2014, American Society for Microbiology. All Rights Reserved.): The viral lytic cycles of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) were chemically induced in primary effusion lymphoma cells (BC-1) dually infected with both viruses. Viral reactivation only occurs in a subset of cells. Although all cells contained both viral genomes, only one virus or the other was induced in any individual cell, as measured by immunofluorescence costaining of the lytic proteins EA-D for EBV (green) and ORF50/Rta for KSHV (red). Nuclei are shown in blue in the merged image. (See related article on p. 8028.)
