Abstract
Introduction:
Citrobacter koseri is a gram-negative bacillus that rarely causes infection in immunocompetent hosts and typically is associated with urinary or respiratory tract infections. Rarely will Citrobacter be a cause of infective endocarditis.
Case Report:
We present a case of a 77-year-old man with no known immunocompromising conditions who was hospitalized for infective aortic endocarditis due to Citrobacter koseri originating from a chronically infected prostate. Unusually, he also developed a C. koseri diskitis and phlegmon, which, along with the aortic vegetations, increased in size despite appropriate antibiotics. The patient thus met indications for aortic valve replacement and had improved appearance of lesions in follow-up imaging.
