EDITORIAL
The performance of the Journal of Virology (JVI) during the past year (1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014) has been excellent. JVI had an Impact Factor of 4.648 for 2013, which puts the journal in seventh place among research virology journals by Impact Factor. However, Journal of Virology was the no. 1 cited journal in Virology and by Eigenfactor score, JVI is the top-ranked virology journal, with 99,113 citations during 2013. In all, 1,388 manuscripts were published in JVI in 2013. These standings are made possible by authors who want to publish their best work in the premier virology journal and by the editors and reviewers who have worked hard to ensure that the review process is constructively critical, fair, and objective and that turnaround times are prompt. I would like to thank all of the JVI reviewers over the past year and to give special credit where credit is due. The publication of the very best science depends entirely upon expert reviewers being willing to devote their time and effort. Especially now, when online journals are appearing with increasing frequency and we are all besieged with requests to review, we are grateful to the 2,983 reviewers who accepted the invitation to review for JVI during the past year. I would especially like to thank the following 25 reviewers, whose service to JVI during 2013 was exceptional in the total number of manuscripts reviewed, submitting reviews within 14 days or less, and accepting the invitation to review more than 90% of the time.
