Former consultant chest physician Birmingham (b Sheffield 1910; q Sheffield 1933), died from bronchial pneumonia on 12 April 2004.

After qualification he trained in tuberculosis at Birmingham in 1936. He became medical superintendent at a sanatorium in Cheltenham after the suicide of its previous incumbent. In 1952 he moved to West Heath Sanatorium as a senior hospital medical officer, working at Birmingham Chest Clinic. He was upgraded to consultant in 1960. He was treasurer of the hospital social club for many years. In retirement he moved to Abingdon, where he walked and cycled until his arthritis overcame him. Predeceased by his wife, Bernadette, he leaves three children.
