Dear Readers
It is said that everything that is born in this material world has to die. Good or bad, everything that begins has to end. It was three years ago that I took the mantle of the editorship of this prestigious journal. Having completed my term, it is now time to bow out and hand over the tedious but very important job of editing this most circulated and respected cardiology journal of the country, to my successor. The power of the pen has always been considered mightier than the sword. In my capacity as the editor of the Indian heart journal, I considered it my responsibility to bring out the research work being carried out in our country, for larger dissemination. It was a challenge to sort out the best articles for publication from the hundreds submitted, keeping in mind the high stature of the journal in the scientific community. In this task, I was ably assisted by the reviewers for the various sections who deserve my whole hearted gratitude and the publishers, who took care of the background work to ensure the timely release and circulation of every issue. I tried my level best to keep the content quality at par with other international journals. We also got the journal indexed, an essential prerequisite for attracting high quality content for publication. In this era of electronic publication, where readers have easy and rapid access to the latest information, our electronic version kept pace with the written form with regularity and hopefully, met the requirements of our readers.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those numerous people who helped me during these three years. From the Elsevier Dr. Lalit Singh, who is one of the sweetest fellows I ever met, was always willing to accommodate and help out. I would also like to say my sincere thanks to his colleagues Ms. Supriya Barua, Ms. Sheenam Aggarwal from the Delhi office and Mr. Mahesh from the Chennai office. I should also express my gratitude to my own staff Ms. Bharathi and Mr. Madhusudhan for their untiring efforts.

There are many more reviewers and people who helped me. Space does not permit me to mention everyone's name.
Overall, it was a great learning experience for me. The one regret I have is that I could not get the impact factor this year. I am sure however, it will be possible in near future. Also, I hope the spirit of scientific enquiry in our country is kept alive by encouraging the youngsters to engage in original research and inculcate an interest in scientific writing. In this age of busy schedules of the cardiologists, the joy of reading and writing should not lose out to other more lucrative activities. I sincerely believe that our country has immense talent and it is our job as the flagship journal of the Cardiological Society of India to bring this out in the open. I am buoyed by some very nice articles I got to read and some very talented people I happen to meet in my capacity as the editor of the IHJ. It is thus with great hope for the bright future of cardiology in our country, I wish the very best to my successor Dr. Sundeep Mishra and bid adieu to all our readers!
