In the original version of this article, the Figure 1 key indicated that the CARD and DED domains of human caspases were shown in blue and green, respectively. This was incorrect. The CARD domains in the domain structures are in green, and the DED domains are in blue. The correct Figure 1 is reproduced below, and the PDF and HTML versions of the article have been amended accordingly.
