IL-4 and IL-13 induced protection against killing of ECs by melittin but did not prevent melittin-induced loss of permeability control. ECs were incubated with medium alone or with IL-4 or IL-13 at 10 ng/mL for 48 h, and then tested for sensitivity to killing by 2.5 μM melittin for 2 h. EC killing was determined by neutral red uptake and permeability was measured by LDH release. Results are means ± S.E.M. of 3 experiments that were performed in triplicate.
