We would like to discuss on the report on “Human papillomavirus deoxyribonucleic acid in non-genital benign papillomatous skin lesion.[1]” Kambiz et al. reported that “Human papillomavirus deoxyribonucleic acid may not be detected in non-genital benign papillomatous skin lesions by polymerase chain reaction.”[1] The result in this work is concordant with the previous report by Meibodi et al.[2] There are many possible explanations for this finding. The null prevalence might be due to no viral infection in the studies skin lesions or there might be some problem in the laboratory analytical process. If the nested polymerase chain reaction using specific selective primers is used, the detection rate can be significantly improve.[3] Finally, it should be noted that the chance for positive human papillomavirus deoxyribonucleic acid in genital benign papillomatous skin lesion is also not high. Reutter et al. reported that only 14.29% of genital benign papillomatous skin lesion was positive.[4]
