Erratum

PMCID: PMC4557502

Erratum for Matte and del Nido; History and Use of del Nido Cardioplegia Solution at Boston Children’s Hospital. JECT. 2012;44:98–103.

Please note that the formula listed in the original publication was misleading in that it did not illustrate well the fact that the crystalloid component potassium is diluted in 1059 mL and so the 26 mEq and 5 mEq values are not per liter (they are per 1.059 L). The following equation is correct. The delivered potassium concentration of del Nido cardioplegia solution is 24 mEq/L.

0.8 crystalloid component × (26 mEq added potassium+5 mEq P-Lyte potassium)1059 mL crystalloid solution volume                                       + 0.2 blood component × (4.5 mEq patient potassium)1000 mL × 1000 mL1 L=24 mEq/L K+
