PMCID: PMC4584084  PMID: 26483604

In the period from 9 to 11 July 2015, in a luxury hotel Divani Palace Acropolis, in the vicinity of one of the most visited parts of Athens and Greece (Acropolis), was held scientific conference “13 International Conference on Informatics, Management and Technology in Healthcare” (ICIMTH). This year ICIMTH represents 13th Annual Conference in this series of scientific events, which is gathering scientists from all continents as well from the Greece from several important fields of Biomedical and Health Informatics. The Conference has a major focus on the applications of Biomedical Informatics starting with Clinical Informatics, Health Informatics to Public Health Informatics as well as on ICT applications in the Healthcare. Considering that, Management and Organizational Issues play an important role in the implementation phase of Biomedical Informatics into the Healthcare systems, so topics related to the above mentioned were more than welcomed. Conference covered the field of Biomedical Informatics in a very broad framework, including many technologies, such as Imaging, Sensors, Biomedical Equipment and Pharmacotechnology. Participants of the Conference were able to participate with presentations of full papers and posters at several scientific sessions and panels, workshops and tutorials related to the aspects of Biomedical Informatics as described in the Conference title. The major focus of the Conference was placed on the implementation of Biomedical Informatics Applications in the whole spectrum–from Clinical Informatics, Health Informatics to Public Health Informatics as applied in the domain of healthcare. Considering that Health management and Organization of healthcare depends of the quality of collected, processed, analyzed and interpreted medical data in all parts of healthcare systems and outcomes of health information on good decisions, especially for patient’s diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation. Topics of the Conference were, very important for the fields of education, diagnostics and research, but also for outcomes of applicative Medical Informatics from cell to population level, including a number of technologies such Imaging, Sensors and Biomedical Equipment and Management in healthcare organization at every level of Healthcare System (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary level). The Conference was organized by the University of Athens and Association for Health Informatics, in cooperation with European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) and International Association of Medical Informatics (IMIA). President of Local Organizing Committee was professor John Mantas (Greece) and president of Scientific Program Committee was professor Arie Hasman (Netherlands). Conference was attended by about 100 participants, and from 95 submissions Scientific Program Committee accepted 65 as full papers and 10 poster presentations. Also, at Conference their speeches had 6 keynote speakers. Keynote speakers were: professor George Demiris (University of Washington, USA)–“Informatics Innovations to Support Aging”; professor Rolf Engelbrecht (Germany)–“Health Information Management”; professor Izet Masic (University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) “History of Medical Informatics”; professor Christos Schzas (Greece)–“Privacy and Data Protection in Healthcare: eHealth for All”; professor Theodoris Arvantis (University of Warwick, UK)–“Cancer Informatics for the Discovery of Imaging Biomarkers”; professor Arie Hasman (The Netherlands)–“An Introduction to Structural Equation Modeling”.
