DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY Correction to Supporting Information for “Gene-expression analysis of hair cell regeneration in the zebrafish lateral line,” by Linjia Jiang, Andres Romero-Carvajal, Jeff S. Haug, Christopher W. Seidel, and Tatjana Piotrowski, which appeared in issue 14, April 8, 2014, of Proc Natl Acad Sci USA (111:E1383–E1392; first published March 27, 2014; 10.1073/pnas.1402898111).
The authors wish to note the following: “A coding error in our implementation of edgeR, which we used to assess transcriptional profiling data, resulted in an understatement of statistical significance for our findings. The error led to an overestimation of dispersion, leading to erroneously high P values for many genes. Proper calculation of dispersion causes many of the P values to be much lower, and many more genes can be considered differentially expressed. Careful reanalysis demonstrates that all genes originally identified as differentially expressed are still identified as differentially expressed with the new pipeline and that the conclusions of the paper remain unchanged. The corrected Tables S1 and S3 and Datasets S1 and S2 are based on and reflect the updated, complete lists of differentially expressed genes.
“The number of genes quoted in several sections of the manuscript increase as a result of reanalyzing the data. For example, the number of genes enriched in GFP+ cells relative to GFP− controls at an adjusted P value ≤ 0.05 is listed as 1,670 but increases to 7,161. In addition, the numbers of genes considered for further analysis at 1 hr, 3 hr, or 5 hr after neomycin treatment were reported as 509, 401, and 418, respectively, but these numbers increase to 2,940 at 1 hr, 1,175 at 3 hr, and 768 at 5 hr.”
As a result of this, Tables S1 and S3 and Datasets S1 and S2 appeared incorrectly. The Supporting Information has been corrected online.
