Dr. Alvin Mercer passed away suddenly on July 7, 2015, at the age of 91. Dr. Mercer was predeceased by wife Marjorie (Mosher) and son Robert. He leaves behind his son Paul and daughter Nancy (Robert Salsman), grandson Christopher, and many relatives and friends.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Mercer attended Memorial University, St. John’s, NF, and went on to attend medical school at Dalhousie, Halifax, NS. He also completed training in Buffalo, NY, and Charleston, SC, before returning to St. John’s as Newfoundland’s first urologist. He became instrumental in modernizing the Newfoundland Medical Association and served as president in 1967.
