(A) CRP levels in the sera of a large cohort of women including PE patient (n=15), normotensive pregnant women, NT (n=15) and nulligravids (NG, n=21). * = p < 0.05 versus NG, ** = p < 0.05 versus NT (B) qRT-PCR showed the presence of CRP mRNA in term placental tissue lysates. PE patients (n=6) have a 4-fold increase in CRP mRNA copies versus the NT cohort (n=6). * = p < 0.05 (C) Western blotting confirmed an increased presence of CRP in PE patient placental tissue. (D) Placental tissue isolated from PE patients showed significant CRP in the villus trophoblast cells of terminal placental villi.
