In the version of this paper originally published online and in the print issue, the penultimate sentence of the summary should have read “increased” rather than “decreased,” as follows: “We show that the introgressed alleles have clear functional effects in modern humans; archaic-like alleles underlie differences in the expression of the TLR genes and are associated with increased microbial resistance and increased allergic disease in large cohorts.2” The article has been corrected online. The authors regret this oversight.
