Former orthopaedic surgeon Glasgow (b 1915; q Glasgow 1938; FRCS Ed, FRFPS Glas), died from cardiac failure on 29 February 2004.

After graduation Archie McDougall joined the Royal Air Force and rose to the rank of squadron leader. His interest in orthopaedic surgery was consolidated during the second world war and after demobilisation he completed his training at the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, where he subsequently began his consultant career. In 1960 he was appointed chief of orthopaedics at the Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow. He established a paraplegic unit at the subsidiary Phillipshill Hospital. His interest in sports led to his becoming one of the original sports doctors. After retirement from the NHS in 1978 he spent four years in charge of the orthopaedic services in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. He leaves a wife, Jean, and two children.
