In another original article Guth et al. evaluates if hepatic steatosis judged by B-mode ultrasound is correlated to atherosclerosis and whether further cardiovascular work-up should be recommended in patients with this incidental finding. The correlation between hepatic steatosis and cardiovascular disease is well established and most recently evaluated in elderly hemodialysis patients, where patients with NAFLD had a 3 times higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease 2.
