Schematic representation of the mechanism of an evaporative light scattering detector (ELSD). First, the chromatographic eluate passes through the nebulizer and mixes with the nebulizing gas (N2), causing dispersion of droplets; subsequently, droplets enter into the nebulizing chamber where the mobile phase evaporates and condenses, being removed as waste; Finally, the analyte crosses an optical cell, a laser beam penetrates the particles, and the scattered light is detected and converted into a signal.
