Violence and Gender is officially retracting the article entitled, “Dangerous Colleges: Associations Between School-Level Factors and the Risk of Sexual Victimization of Female Students” by Stephen Cranney, PhD [Violence and Gender, 2016;3(2):100–106; DOI: 10.1089/vio.2016.0003].

After the publication of the above-named article, the author, Dr. Stephen Cranney, contacted Dr. Mary Ellen O'Toole, the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, to indicate that some errors existed in the published article and requested they be corrected. The nature of the inaccuracies presented to Dr. O'Toole caused her to reevaluate the article where she found discrepancies and errors in coding, data conversion, and labeling.

Dr. O'Toole enlisted the assistance of a statistician who was unable to substantiate or verify the data. Although Dr. O'Toole believes the errors were unintentional, there is cause for concern that the data and, therefore, the analysis and conclusions in the article are not reliable.

Violence and Gender is committed to the highest standards of peer review and to the integrity of scientific publishing and the community it serves and, therefore, officially retracts this article from the literature.
