ECOLOGY. For the article “Association between climate variability and malaria epidemics in the East African highlands,” by Guofa Zhou, Noboru Minakawa, Andrew K. Githeko, and Guiyun Yan, which appeared in issue 8, February 24, 2004, of Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA (101, 2375–2380; first published February 17, 2004; 10.1073/pnas.0308714100), the authors note that the malaria time series data in the site Kericho is actually the number of malaria inpatients and not the number of outpatients. The results and conclusions regarding the role of climate variability are unchanged.
