Coronary Artery Anomalies Forum

In the current issue of the Texas Heart Institute Journal, we present a new section that is specifically intended to explore a subject that in our judgment needs more focused attention and a more organized approach: coronary artery anomalies.

We believe that dedicating a regular section of the Texas Heart Institute Journal to this subject and enhancing the presentation format will allow us to highlight the discussion of interesting individual cases or short series (which continue to constitute most of the cardiology literature on the subject) in a way that will truly help advance the field.

The Journal invites its readers to submit interesting new cases and unusual features of coronary anomalies, using a structured format for reporting. For details on the suggested outline of these reports, please see our revised Information for Authors as it will soon appear on the Texas Heart Institute's Web site: www.texasheartinstitute.org/journal.html.

In our judgment, such a structured approach will optimize the educational potential of individual cases, or reports of short series, and move beyond simple presentations of interesting images to a deeper, more organized discussion of the clinical context. In order to promote the establishment and development of this educational and scientific effort, the Texas Heart Institute Journal will endeavor to include short expert commentaries and perspectives with each original publication.

This initiative is presented in conjunction with the imminent inauguration of a new Texas Heart Institute educational Web site, “Coronary Artery Anomalies Center” (www.texasheartinstitute.org/caac.html). This site is specifically designed to highlight recent advances in coronary artery anomalies and will eventually serve as a centralized reference and archival resource for information on this subject from throughout the world. Authors of the best manuscripts and case presentations sent to the Web site will be offered publication in the Texas Heart Institute Journal.
