Former consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology St James's Hospital, Leeds (b Wallasey 1916; q Manchester 1940; FRCOG, FRCS Ed), d 11 July 2004.
After three house officer appointments Theo joined the Royal Army Medical Corps. After service in Egypt and Syria he returned to Egypt for paratroop training. He served with distinction in the Sicily landing and in Arnhem, where he was wounded, captured, and escaped by leaping from a train. After demobilisation Theo trained in obstetrics and gynaecology. He was appointed consultant at St James's Hospital, Leeds, a post he held until he retired in 1981. With two colleagues he founded the Fothergill Club, a travelling group that visited many European cities and the United States. He leaves a wife, Jenanne; and three children.
