Changes in microdialysis extraction efficiency and mass removal between two hypothetical tissue mass transport coefficients varying by a value of 2. This data was generated using a standard membrane transport equation of C/Co = 1− exp(−kA/Q), where C is the concentration of the dialysate, Co is the concentration outside the membrane, k is an overall mass transport coefficient, A is the membrane surface area and Q is the flow rate (μL/min). Values of k (600) and A (0.002) were arbitrarily assigned to illustrate EE of approximately 1 at low flow rates.
