Former consultant orthopaedic surgeon Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, Lincolnshire (b Sheffield 1930; q Sheffield 1952; FRCS), died from multiple organ failure resulting from lymphoma on 29 January 2004.
After registration Jim joined the army for his national service and then returned to Sheffield University as a demonstrator in anatomy from 1956 to 1958. He became consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Boston in 1968, remaining there until his retirement in 1996. His many hobbies included sailing, gardening, playing the violin, and becoming fluent in languages, including German and Russian. He leaves a wife, Frankie, and four children.
