In its 40th year of continuous publication, the Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine (JSCM) can claim many successes. More authors from more countries are choosing to publish in JSCM. Topics address the broad spectrum of research underway. Our authors share their investigations on the molecular level and in clinical populations, from acute care through aging with a disability, and report advances in surgery, nursing, technology, psychology, and rehabilitation. Every angle is explored toward improving the lives of individuals with disease or injury of the spinal cord.
Maximizing the impact of this research is essential to translating advances into achieving better outcomes, and each of us—author, publisher, editor, and reader—can contribute to this effort. For authors, the first step is to make full use of the complimentary services provided by our publisher, Taylor & Francis, which are detailed online at http://authorservices.taylorandfrancis.com.
Taylor & Francis provides every JSCM author, including co-authors, a link to 50 free eprints upon publication of their article. The article link can be used to alert colleagues on professional networking sites such as LinkedIn, Mendeley and ResearchGate, and included on websites, discussion lists and blogs. Author Services can incorporate the link in a banner for an author's email signature, or help an author create a video abstract that will be featured on Taylor & Francis Online. Through their dedicated accounts on Taylor & Francis Online, authors can download their articles, access eprint links, and check citations and Altmetric data. JSCM authors can access Kudos (https://www.growkudos.com), a powerful web-based tool for disseminating findings to a wider audience and measuring and monitoring impact,
JSCM has a growing presence in social media, which has emerged as a major means of maximizing the impact of research. The Journal's editors maintain JSCM’s Twitter account and Facebook page, where every new article is tweeted and posted. First, we make an effort to connect with pages and accounts belonging to authors and their institutions. Connecting with them increases research dissemination and author recognition, and adds to JSCM’s reach on social media. Our channels engage 1500 followers—researchers, clinicians, journals, universities, government agencies, foundations, media outlets, advocacy groups, professional organizations like the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (ASCIP), and others that share an interest in the mission of JSCM.
Readers can actively participate in disseminating SCI research. Through tandfonline.com, readers can access the entire archives of JSCM's 40 years of publication, and sign up for New Content Alerts and Latest Article Alerts. Every online article can be readily shared directly to your choice of social media channels. We welcome readers to join in our efforts at https://twitter.com/JSpinalCordMed, and www.Facebook.com/JSpinalCordMed.
By sharing in dissemination efforts and using the many tools and resources available today, we can ensure that our research reaches the widest possible audience and translates into better outcomes for individuals with SCI.
