Tim Carter did house jobs at St Thomas' and Worthing and then worked for three years as a senior house officer at Yeovil District Hospital. After six months' general practice in Newfoundland and six months in Dorset he became a GP and part time anaesthetist in Lewes in 1978. In 1995 he left Lewes to become medical adviser to West Sussex Health Authority, latterly sharing this job with a return to practice in Burgess Hill. He was killed by a car while running with the Brighton Hash Harriers. He leaves a wife, Rosemary, and six children.
