Former general practitioner Walton-on-Thames (b Oxford 1923; q Middlesex Hospital, London, 1949; FRCPath), died from cardiovascular disease on 12 November 2004.

Patrick qualified late, delayed by pulmonary tuberculosis acquired as a student. He worked first in pathology, at the Bland Sutton Institute and at the Institute of Ophthalmology. Wanting patient contact, he moved into general practice in Surrey in 1959. Flying small aeroplanes was a lifelong passion and he loved doing pilots' medicals. Patrick was predeceased by his youngest child, John, a BBC reporter shot in Croatia, and by his first wife, Jean. He leaves his second wife, Vicky; four children; and 16 grandchildren.
