In vitro drug release profile of a commercially available 5 mg prednisolone tablet, compared to drug release from kafirin microparticles containing an equivalent of 5 mg prednisolone, in conditions simulating the colon. Medium was added to the substrates (0.5 g glucose with microparticles or tablet; see Table 2) at –16 h, and fecal inoculum was added at 0 h. A tablet incubated in autoclaved inoculum served as a control (Control 4 in Table 2). Values are mean ± SEM (n = 3).
