Former regional medical officer East Anglian Regional Health Authority (b 1924; q Aberdeen 1948; DPH), died from prostate cancer on 5 May 2004.

Following house appointments and national service in the Royal Air Force Duncan became assistant medical officer of health in Stirlingshire and divisional medical officer in Grangemouth before moving into hospital administration in Leeds. After transferring to Newcastle he moved to East Anglia in 1968 as senior administrative medical officer to the regional board, becoming regional medical officer to the East Anglian Regional Hospital Authority in 1974. He was a founder member of the then Faculty of Community Medicine and honorary physician to the Queen. He leaves a wife, Shirley, and three children.
