Former consultant urological surgeon Newport (b Hampshire 1957; q Cambridge/London 1981; FRCS, FRCS (Urol), FEBU), died from cardiac arrhythmia on 12 May 2004.

Winsor began specialist training in urology in 1987, and in 1990 was seconded for 18 months to St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne, as visiting fellow and later staff consultant. While there he performed innovative laparoscopic surgery, including nephrectomy and retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. In 1993 he was appointed to the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, where he set up the first radical prostatectomy service in Wales, and a prostate cancer research unit. He published widely and in 2000 edited the book Challenges in Prostate Cancer. Winsor set up a support group for prostate cancer patients and their carers, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. In 1996 he was medical adviser to the BBC 2 series The Male Survival Guide. He leaves a wife, Pauline, and three children.
