After house jobs in Sudan and a senior house officer rotation in Harlow Assad, as he was known, undertook cardiology posts in Romford, the London Chest, Basildon, and Whipps Cross hospitals. The experience of treating patients in Sudan had increased Asaad's appreciation of the impact of good health facilities and had motivated him to consider establishing a cardiac centre in Khartoum. Only a few weeks before his death he had completed a business case and secured governmental approval for his dream cardiac centre. He died while driving a colleague to catch a plane. He leaves a wife, Rna, and two children.
