Beesley, J.F. Bernard, Kamloops, BC; McGill University, 1953; general medicine. Died Aug. 20, 2004, aged 83; survived by his wife, Marguerite, and 7 children.

Bogoch, Abraham, Vancouver; University of Toronto, 1946; internal medicine; DSc, FACP, FRCPC; active staff, Vancouver General Hospital, and clinical professor, University of British Columbia. Died Aug. 17, 2004, aged 82; survived by his wife, Dr. Margaret Mullinger, and his children Sarah, David and Ruth. He was a founding member, and past president, of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology.

Burge, John L.F., Stratford, PEI; McGill University, 1949. Died Sept. 1, 2004, aged 79; survived by his children Ann, Dianne, Brian and Ian.

Burgess, David W., Warkworth, Ont.; University of London (UK), 1941; general medicine, MRCS, LRCP. Died June 9, 2004, aged 87; survived by his sons Neil, Mark and Paul. In a biography written for his memorial service, his sons stated: “Dr. David William Burgess was an ordinary man in that he loved his family, his work, his friends, and Canada. But he was also extraordinary. ... He had great professional ability. He was adventurous and in many ways fearless. He was our father. He was a gentleman.”

Thompson, Charles A., London, Ont.; McGill University, 1938; otoloryngology; CM, MD CM, FRCSC. Died Aug. 26, 2004, aged 96; survived by daughters Louise and Wendy. “Charlie's sense of humour, generosity, humility, friendship, love for nature, concern for his fellow being and outlook on life were his most outstanding attributes.”

van Belkum, Jacobus A.M., Medicine Hat, Alta.; University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), 1946; obstetrics and gynecology; FRCOG, FACS, FRCSC; staff, Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Died July 28, 2004, aged 83.

Walker, William G., Langley, BC; McGill University, 1948; family physician. Died Aug. 31, 2004, aged 80; survived by 6 children. “Bill loved to simply talk to people and filled the world with much intelligence, creativity, charm and humour.”

Watson, Ronald K., Winnipeg; University of Manitoba, 1953; otolaryngology; FRCPC; staff, St. Boniface General Hospital. Died Aug. 6, 2004, aged 75; survived by his wife, Marilyn, and children Don, Debbie, Rick, Linda and Ron Jr.

Weinstein, Lionel J., North York, Ont.; Queen's University, 1964; pediatrics; FRCPC; active staff, York–Finch General Hospital, assistant professor of pediatrics, University of Toronto. Died Aug. 21, 2004, aged 64.

Wiseman, Jean-Jacques, Outremont, Que.; Université de Montréal, 1965; pneumologie; ancien chef de service de pneumologie et chef du département de médecine, l'hôpital du Sacré-Coeur. Décédé le 10 août 2004, à l'âge 65 ans; laisse son épouse, Monique Le Siège, et ses enfants Caroline, Marie-Hélène et Annabelle.
