Sir,
We are overwhelmed to learn that pioneers of this work have appreciated our efforts.1,2
We have already acknowledged their contribution by frequently quoting them in our manuscript.
The pioneering original work by Urist3,4 cannot be undermined. However, BHU and later on UCMS orthopedic leadership chaired by Prof. S. M. Tuli remains the proponents and propagators of this pioneering work in India and other developing countries.
Our interest in decalcified allograft arose after the publication of masterly article from BHU by Goel et al.5
This technique of preparation and use of “decal bone”, based on several studies, as rightly pointed out, and our own experience,6 is well suited for developing countries. However, due to the implementation of “The Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994” and strict protocol for bone-banking which should be followed now-a-days, there may be some legal intricacies involved. Having said that, partially decalcified allograft, is nevertheless, an excellent biomaterial for use in lytic lesions, structural defects and doing spinal fusions. It is well suited for developing countries like India where proper bone banking facilities are still a distant dream.
