Anne was an accident officer for eight years before settling in general practice in Pimlico, where she became the principal. She was a pioneer in the management of the menopause and was a founder of the menopause clinic at St Luke's Hospital for the Clergy. An enthusiastic sailor, in 1997 she became commodore of the Little Ship Club for four years. She was medical officer to the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. In October 2004 she became president of the Medical Society of London and gave her presidential address on 10 January 2005, only a month before her death. Her marriage to the late Dr John Miles Thomas was dissolved and she had no children.
