Overview of the SETG instrument. Soils collected by a sample-handling system will be processed; any extracted nucleic acids will then be conditioned and sequenced in situ. Any resulting sequences can be compared to all known Earth sequences to determine if such sequences represent forward contamination or putative martian life.
