Eric was appointed consultant anaesthetist at Whipps Cross Hospital in 1948 and moved to Barnet General Hospital in 1957. He was interested in epidural analgesia, controlled hypotension, and the anaesthetist's contribution to pain relief, and became much involved in the intensive therapy unit and resuscitation. He was medical adviser to the Royal Life Saving Society, the British Red Cross Society, and the London Ambulance Service. In 1976 he took early retirement on health grounds, going on to work for the Council for Postgraduate Medical Education in England and Wales. Predeceased by his wife, he leaves three children and three grandchildren.
