Former school medical officer Gloucestershire County Council (b Cheltenham 1911; q London School of Medicine for Women 1935), died from heart failure on 25 December 2004.

Brenda spent her early years working in Cheltenham in general practice. In 1935 she was married in Hong Kong to Hugh Valentine, a naval officer serving with the Far East Fleet. She was widowed in 1945 and then combined bringing up her two sons with her work as school medical officer for Gloucestershire County Council. She was involved in developing child health programmes throughout the county. She retired in 1975.
