Denis Parr's psychiatric training was at the Maudsley and St George's hospitals, London. From 1960 to 1965 he was consultant psychiatrist at Roffey Park Hospital before moving to Brighton, where he directed the drug dependency clinic. He retired in 1986 and became a Lord Chancellor's visitor. His research interests included homosexuality and addiction. Throughout his professional life he had debilitating respiratory problems. He leaves a wife, Sue; two children; and six grandchildren.
