General practitioner Winchester, Hampshire (b Essex 1926; q Oxford/Westminster Hospital, London, 1950), died from motor neurone disease on 23 May 2005.
Peter Gaffikin was appointed to a single-handed practice in Winchester in 1959 and retired from a partnership in 1990. After house jobs in London he did national service with the Royal Army Medical Corps in the mid-1950s, moving to Hampshire after a brief spell as an assistant in Strood, Kent. Once established, he also worked as an occupational health physician and an associate specialist in geriatrics. Peter was a key member of Rotary International and a past president of Winchester Rotary Club. Predeceased by his wife, Teddie, he leaves three daughters and four grandchildren.
