PLANT BIOLOGY. For the article “A highly conserved kinase is an essential component for stress tolerance in yeast and plant cells” by Jeong Hee Lee, Marc Van Montagu, and Nathalie Verbruggen, which appeared in number 10, May 11, 1999, of Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA (96, 5873–5877), the undersigned authors note the following: “We were unable to identify the sequence Y13135 presented in Fig. 1 in the Arabidopsis thaliana genome and suspect that the sequence does not exist in A. thaliana. We therefore wish to withdraw the article. We regret the situation and apologize for the time researchers may have lost.”
