Emerson, and Robert H. Purcell, which appeared in number 9, April 30, 1996, of Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA (93, 4370–4373), the authors request that the following correction be noted. On page 4371, column 1, line 22 stating “Each reaction contained 20 pmol of each primer …” should read “Each reaction contained 10 pmol of each primer … .”
