We apologise for the editorial error that occurred in the first letter of this cluster, Let's celebrate the difference between doctors and nurses, by Patrick White (16 September, p 698). In the first sentence of the third paragraph the word “not” was omitted. The sentence should have read, “As a general practitioner I do not expect nurses to do the things I dislike doing more cheaply and more efficiently” [rather than the published, “As a general practitioner I do expect nurses to do the things I dislike doing more cheaply and more efficiently”]. The version on bmj.com (www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/321/7262/698) was corrected on 19 September.
