Model of OB-ISC response to injury. (A) Before injury: OB-ISCs reside adjacent to the HZ, which suppresses proliferation relative to other R5 ISCs. (B) After injury: injury disrupts the HZ, activates JAK-STAT signaling and promotes OB-ISC proliferation. If the injury is severe, some OB-ISCs cross the organ boundary.
