Federation of Operative Dentistry was formed on 5th March 1982 by 5 most respected senior teachers in Operative Dentistry. The name F.O.D.I was changed to I.A.C.D.E (Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics) in year 2011. This day (5th March) is being celebrated since last year 2017. We all must remember the restorative part (conservative part also include restorative part) is most important for an endodontically treated tooth to survive lifetime in a proper way. The decision whether or not to go for R.C.T should be made if the restoration can be done proper way. That is why Conservative and Endodontics is inseparable.
The raging controversy whether molar RCT should be done by others, other than qualified Endodontists – is debatable. It is worth mentioning that a general practice without restorations, RCT and crown is nonexistent now. So, a BDS may not survive without doing posterior RCT. But the patients must not suffer for the improper RCT. Then the overall name of the profession goes down and the faith of the patients in RCT. So, the 1 day training module or hands-on courses should be strictly monitored. And all the doctors should go for DCI approved Diploma courses after a National Entrance Test if possible. Till then a MDS in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics should do consulting service when asked for and all practicing BDS doctors should opt for it.
But this is a long drawn process. But it should be kick-started as soon as possible.
Pronam and Praying.
