Correction to “Why Are Obstetric Units in Rural Hospitals Closing Their Doors?”

PMCID: PMC5980355  PMID: 29878334

Peiyin Hung, Katy B. Kozhimannil, Michelle M. Casey, and Ira S. Moscovice. Article originally published in HSR Volume 51, Number 4, August 2016.

In the introduction of this published article, the number of reproductive‐age women (18–44 years) living in rural areas of the United States should be over 18 million, instead of 28 million. The initial calculation of the 28 million included older rural women (ages 45+).

The corrected text should read as:

“Over 18 million reproductive‐age women (18–44 years) live in rural areas of the United States (U.S. Census Bureau 2012).”
