Welcome to the first issue of an exciting new journal, VideoGIE. As with most ambitious ventures, what you see as the finished product represents only a fraction of the work that went on before. From the DAVE project, a video editing training program that began in 2005, to the ASGE’s Video Editing Scholarship Program in 2007, to August 2013 when GIE published its first “VideoGIE” article, many people worked behind the scenes to encourage the use of video-based projects and articles.
We aren’t the only ones who have been excited by this opportunity. In the August 2013 issue of GIE, we published a single “VideoGIE” article; just 3 years later, in September 2016, we published 16. As you can see, the growth of this type of article has been phenomenal. Our innovative and forward-looking authors have embraced the chance to demonstrate their work via video. Our ASGE leadership saw this as a sign that the endoscopy world was ready for us to start a second journal, one that is video-based and dedicated to helping endoscopists around the world to care for their patients. Our hope is that this will have a positive impact on everyone involved in endoscopy care: endoscopists, technicians, nurses, and industry colleagues.
VideoGIE is a monthly online-only journal (except for this special premiere issue, which our Publisher kindly offered to print). It is open access and will publish original, peer-reviewed video case reports and case series of endoscopic procedures used in the study, diagnosis, and treatment of digestive diseases. VideoGIE is a sister journal to GIE: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, yet each issue of VideoGIE will be freely available without subscription and will be completely digital. We have an Editorial Review Board consisting of over 75 members, an Editorial Board that we share with GIE, 6 Editorial Advisory Board members, 2 Associate Editors, and 2 Co-Editors-in-Chief.
This is only the beginning. Our minds are full of ideas and possibilities, and we encourage you to tell us your ideas as well! Please join us on this exciting journey into the future world of multi-media. We hope you will submit your articles at http://ees.elsevier.com/vgie/ and view our growing library of articles at www.videogie.org. Send your questions to us at videogie@asge.org. Most of all, celebrate with us the launch of our new journal: VideoGIE.
