These are horseshoe-shaped members of the small leucine rich repeat proteoglycan (SLRP) family. Aggrecan (G) is a member of the lectican proteoglycan family. KS chains in aggrecan occur in five regions indicated in the boxed areas in (G). These are (1) the G1 hyaluronan binding region (HABR), (2) interglobular domain (IGD), (3) G2 globular domain, (4) KS-rich region. (5) KS chains are also interspersed throughout the CS1 and CS2 domains of the CS-rich region.
