Correction for Ishikawa et al., Ion-beam irradiation, gene identification, and marker-assisted breeding in the development of low-cadmium rice

AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES Correction for “Ion-beam irradiation, gene identification, and marker-assisted breeding in the development of low-cadmium rice,” by Satoru Ishikawa, Yasuhiro Ishimaru, Masato Igura, Masato Kuramata, Tadashi Abe, Takeshi Senoura, Yoshihiro Hase, Tomohito Arao, Naoko K. Nishizawa, and Hiromi Nakanishi, which was first published November 6, 2012; 10.1073/pnas.1211132109 (Proc Natl Acad Sci USA 109:19166–19171).

The authors note that Table S5 appeared incorrectly. The titles of the columns that report the signals for lcd-kmt1 and WT in the microarray were reversed. Fold changes of lcd-kmt1 to WT were recalculated and the corrected values were represented. Because the signals were reversed, the genes that down-regulated or up-regulated in lcd-kmt1 were also reversed. The corrected table appears below. This error has been corrected online.

Due to the corrections in Table S5, some text in the main article should be revised as follows:

On page 19168, left column, second full paragraph, lines 1–2, “Microarray analysis showed a 2.5-fold increase in OsNRAMP5 expression for lcd-kmt1 compared with the WT” should instead appear as “Microarray analysis showed that OsNRAMP5 expression in lcd-kmt1 was 0.4 times that in the WT.”

In the same paragraph, lines 6–9, “Rather, genes involved in the photosynthetic process were up-regulated considerably, and Fe-deficiency inducible genes were down-regulated in the lcd-kmt1 mutant” should instead appear as “Rather, genes involved in the photosynthetic process were down-regulated considerably, and Fe-deficiency inducible genes were up-regulated in the lcd-kmt1 mutant.”

On page 19169, right column, lines 16–19, “In contrast, the expression of osnramp5-1 present in the lcd-kmt1 plant was increased but the expressions of Fe deficiency-inducible genes were down-regulated” should instead appear as “Similarly, the expression of osnramp5-1 in the lcd-kmt1 plants decreased, but the expression of Fe deficiency-inducible genes was up-regulated.”

These errors do not affect the conclusions of the article. We sincerely regret these mistakes.
