This issue of Missouri Medicine features seven reviews by members of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in the Department of Internal Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Under the leadership of the late Dr. Coy Fitch, the Department of Medicine was revamped into an academically productive group of outstanding clinician investigators beginning in the late 1980s. This included the recruitment of renowned and promising hepatologists and gastroenterologists from across the country that included Drs. Bruce Bacon, Adrian Di Bisceglie, Charlene Prather, and we built further upon that over time to have national and international recognitions for our contributions in liver, GI, and pancreatic disease.
The seven reviews in this issue reflect the work by some of our outstanding fellows under the guidance of our junior faculty members who have established themselves regionally for their expertise in the areas that they have chosen to cover. We hope that you find these concise reviews helpful in your practice as they provide practical advice on common and challenging areas of gastroenterology and hepatology.
