The Editors of the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology continue to support the research efforts of Early Career Investigators whose work provides new insights into the mechanisms, from the molecular to the organismal levels, underlying integrative physiology in health and disease. Once again in 2019, the Editors extend an invitation to all physiologists in the early stages of their careers to submit a single-authored review article to the journal for consideration for an award of $1,000. These should be full review articles with comprehensive reference lists that address major areas of advancement in the field with a focus not only on the existing literature but also directions for future research.
The competition is open to individuals whose terminal degree was granted within the past seven years. Postdoctoral fellows, residents/interns, junior faculty, and physiologists in industry are invited to participate. The Editors will review these manuscripts and those chosen for the awards will be published in a special issue. Accepted reviews not selected for the final awards also will be published in the same issue. Manuscripts must be submitted for peer review no later than May 31, 2019. Only one revision will be allowed, and the final revision must be submitted by September 1, 2019. When submitting to the manuscript category “2019 New Investigator Review Award,” authors must submit a complete updated curriculum vitae as Supplemental Material. Information on how to submit the manuscripts can be accessed by clicking on the “submit” tab at: https://www.physiology.org/journal/ajpregu.
This is the third year of this award program and, to date, seven early career investigators have been recognized for their work. Prospective authors are encouraged to consult those awarded reviews (1–7) when preparing their manuscripts.
The Editors encourage early career investigators to not only participate in this award competition but to also become involved in the many career development, educational, and scientific advocacy programs sponsored by the American Physiological Society. In addition, the editors encourage all physiologists to consider the American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology as a venue for publication of their research findings.
